Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1011 × k = 1010 × k + 1 × k.
  • Each answer is 1011 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1011.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1011 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1011 away: 10,110 − 1011 = 9,099. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1011: 10,110 + 1011 = 11,121. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1011 → 2,022 → 4,044.

Every multiple of 1011 is at least 1011, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1011 times table exactly when it divides by 1011 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1011 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1011 × 1 = 1011 is odd, 1011 × 2 = 2,022 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1011 × 10 = 10,110, and 1011 × 100 = 101,100. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,110 is 5,055.

Using the 1011 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1011 × 7 = 7,077, you know 7,077 ÷ 1011 = 7 and 7,077 ÷ 7 = 1011. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1011 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
    Answer5 × 1011 = 5,055 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $1011 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
    Answer6 × $1011 = $6,066.
  3. 6,066 chairs are set out in rows of 1011. How many rows are there?
    Answer6,066 ÷ 1011 = 6 rows.
  4. A plant grows 1011 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 6 weeks?
    Answer6 × 1011 = 6,066 millimetres.

Questions

What is 1011 × 12?

12,132.

What is half of 1011 × 8?

1011 × 8 = 8,088, and half of that is 4,044, which is 1011 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1011 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1011 contain nothing.

What is 1011 × 7 and 1011 × 8?

1011 × 7 = 7,077 and 1011 × 8 = 8,088. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 15,165 in the 1011 times table?

Yes: 15,165 ÷ 1011 = 15 with no remainder. 15,166 is not, because dividing it by 1011 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1011 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
