Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1033 × k = 1030 × k + 3 × k.
  • Each answer is 1033 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1033.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1033 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1033 away: 10,330 − 1033 = 9,297. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1033: 10,330 + 1033 = 11,363. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1033 → 2,066 → 4,132.

Every multiple of 1033 is at least 1033, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1033 times table exactly when it divides by 1033 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1033 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1033 × 1 = 1033 is odd, 1033 × 2 = 2,066 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1033 × 10 = 10,330, and 1033 × 100 = 103,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,330 is 5,165.

Using the 1033 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1033 × 7 = 7,231, you know 7,231 ÷ 1033 = 7 and 7,231 ÷ 7 = 1033. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1033 pencils. How many pencils are in 3 boxes?
    Answer3 × 1033 = 3,099 pencils.

Questions

What is 1033 × 12?

12,396.

What is half of 1033 × 8?

1033 × 8 = 8,264, and half of that is 4,132, which is 1033 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1033 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1033 contain nothing.

What is 1033 × 7 and 1033 × 8?

1033 × 7 = 7,231 and 1033 × 8 = 8,264. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 15,495 in the 1033 times table?

Yes: 15,495 ÷ 1033 = 15 with no remainder. 15,496 is not, because dividing it by 1033 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1033 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
