Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
  • Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1065 × k = 1060 × k + 5 × k.
  • Each answer is 1065 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1065.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1065 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1065 away: 10,650 − 1065 = 9,585. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1065: 10,650 + 1065 = 11,715. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1065 → 2,130 → 4,260.

Every multiple of 1065 is at least 1065, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1065 times table exactly when it divides by 1065 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1065 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1065 × 1 = 1065 is odd, 1065 × 2 = 2,130 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1065 × 10 = 10,650, and 1065 × 100 = 106,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,650 is 5,325.

Using the 1065 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1065 × 7 = 7,455, you know 7,455 ÷ 1065 = 7 and 7,455 ÷ 7 = 1065. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1065 pencils. How many pencils are in 8 boxes?
    Answer8 × 1065 = 8,520 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $1065 each. How much do 12 tickets cost?
    Answer12 × $1065 = $12,780.
  3. 4,260 chairs are set out in rows of 1065. How many rows are there?
    Answer4,260 ÷ 1065 = 4 rows.
  4. A plant grows 1065 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?

Questions

What is 1065 × 12?

12,780.

What is half of 1065 × 8?

1065 × 8 = 8,520, and half of that is 4,260, which is 1065 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1065 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1065 contain nothing.

What is 1065 × 7 and 1065 × 8?

1065 × 7 = 7,455 and 1065 × 8 = 8,520. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 15,975 in the 1065 times table?

Yes: 15,975 ÷ 1065 = 15 with no remainder. 15,976 is not, because dividing it by 1065 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1065 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
