Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 22 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 22 × k = 20 × k + 2 × k.
- Each answer is 22 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 22.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 22 times table is double the answer in the 11 times table: 11 × 6 = 66, so 22 × 6 = 132. To multiply 22 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 22 away: 220 − 22 = 198. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 22: 220 + 22 = 242. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 22 → 44 → 88.
There are 4 multiples of 22 below 100, and 45 below 1,000. A number is in the 22 times table exactly when it divides by 22 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 22 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 22 × 10 = 220, and 22 × 100 = 2,200. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 220 is 110.
Using the 22 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 22 × 7 = 154, you know 154 ÷ 22 = 7 and 154 ÷ 7 = 22. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 22 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 22 = 88 pencils. - Tickets cost $22 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
Answer
6 × $22 = $132. - 176 chairs are set out in rows of 22. How many rows are there?
Answer
176 ÷ 22 = 8 rows. - A plant grows 22 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?
Answer
7 × 22 = 154 millimetres.
Questions
What is 22 × 12?
264.
What is half of 22 × 8?
22 × 8 = 176, and half of that is 88, which is 22 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 22 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 22 contain nothing.
What is 22 × 7 and 22 × 8?
22 × 7 = 154 and 22 × 8 = 176. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 330 in the 22 times table?
Yes: 330 ÷ 22 = 15 with no remainder. 331 is not, because dividing it by 22 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 22 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
