Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 32 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 32 × k = 30 × k + 2 × k.
- Each answer is 32 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 32.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 32 times table is double the answer in the 16 times table: 16 × 6 = 96, so 32 × 6 = 192. To multiply 32 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 32 away: 320 − 32 = 288. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 32: 320 + 32 = 352. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 32 → 64 → 128.
There are 3 multiples of 32 below 100, and 31 below 1,000. A number is in the 32 times table exactly when it divides by 32 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 32 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 32 × 10 = 320, and 32 × 100 = 3,200. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 320 is 160.
Using the 32 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 32 × 7 = 224, you know 224 ÷ 32 = 7 and 224 ÷ 7 = 32. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 32 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 32 = 128 pencils. - Tickets cost $32 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
Answer
4 × $32 = $128. - 288 chairs are set out in rows of 32. How many rows are there?
Answer
288 ÷ 32 = 9 rows. - A plant grows 32 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 32 = 256 millimetres.
Questions
What is 32 × 12?
384.
What is half of 32 × 8?
32 × 8 = 256, and half of that is 128, which is 32 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 32 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 32 contain nothing.
What is 32 × 7 and 32 × 8?
32 × 7 = 224 and 32 × 8 = 256. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 480 in the 32 times table?
Yes: 480 ÷ 32 = 15 with no remainder. 481 is not, because dividing it by 32 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 32 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
