Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 1: 0.
- Every answer is even, because 30 is even.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 30 × k = 30 × k + 0 × k.
- Each answer is 30 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 30.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 30 times table is double the answer in the 15 times table: 15 × 6 = 90, so 30 × 6 = 180. To multiply 30 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 30 away: 300 − 30 = 270. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 30: 300 + 30 = 330. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 30 → 60 → 120.
There are 3 multiples of 30 below 100, and 33 below 1,000. A number is in the 30 times table exactly when it divides by 30 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 30 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 30 × 10 = 300, and 30 × 100 = 3,000. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 300 is 150.
Using the 30 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 30 × 7 = 210, you know 210 ÷ 30 = 7 and 210 ÷ 7 = 30. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 30 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 30 = 120 pencils. - Tickets cost $30 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
Answer
4 × $30 = $120. - 270 chairs are set out in rows of 30. How many rows are there?
Answer
270 ÷ 30 = 9 rows. - A plant grows 30 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 30 = 240 millimetres.
Questions
What is 30 × 12?
360.
What is half of 30 × 8?
30 × 8 = 240, and half of that is 120, which is 30 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 30 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 30 contain nothing.
What is 30 × 7 and 30 × 8?
30 × 7 = 210 and 30 × 8 = 240. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 450 in the 30 times table?
Yes: 450 ÷ 30 = 15 with no remainder. 451 is not, because dividing it by 30 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 30 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
