Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 37 × k = 30 × k + 7 × k.
- Each answer is 37 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 37.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 37 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 37 away: 370 − 37 = 333. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 37: 370 + 37 = 407. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 37 → 74 → 148.
There are 2 multiples of 37 below 100, and 27 below 1,000. A number is in the 37 times table exactly when it divides by 37 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 37 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 37 × 1 = 37 is odd, 37 × 2 = 74 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 37 × 10 = 370, and 37 × 100 = 3,700. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 370 is 185.
Using the 37 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 37 × 7 = 259, you know 259 ÷ 37 = 7 and 259 ÷ 7 = 37. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 37 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 37 = 185 pencils. - Tickets cost $37 each. How much do 5 tickets cost?
Answer
5 × $37 = $185. - 185 chairs are set out in rows of 37. How many rows are there?
Answer
185 ÷ 37 = 5 rows. - A plant grows 37 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 12 weeks?
Answer
12 × 37 = 444 millimetres.
Questions
What is 37 × 12?
444.
What is half of 37 × 8?
37 × 8 = 296, and half of that is 148, which is 37 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 37 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 37 contain nothing.
What is 37 × 7 and 37 × 8?
37 × 7 = 259 and 37 × 8 = 296. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 555 in the 37 times table?
Yes: 555 ÷ 37 = 15 with no remainder. 556 is not, because dividing it by 37 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 37 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
