Patterns that help you remember it

  • The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0.
  • Split it into tens and ones: 1007 × k = 1000 × k + 7 × k.
  • Each answer is 1007 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1007.

Building it from tables you already know

To multiply 1007 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1007 away: 10,070 − 1007 = 9,063. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1007: 10,070 + 1007 = 11,077. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1007 → 2,014 → 4,028.

Every multiple of 1007 is at least 1007, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1007 times table exactly when it divides by 1007 with no remainder.

Odd, even and the last digit

Because 1007 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1007 × 1 = 1007 is odd, 1007 × 2 = 2,014 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1007 × 10 = 10,070, and 1007 × 100 = 100,700. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,070 is 5,035.

Using the 1007 times table to divide

Every fact also works backwards: because 1007 × 7 = 7,049, you know 7,049 ÷ 1007 = 7 and 7,049 ÷ 7 = 1007. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems

Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:

  1. A box holds 1007 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
    Answer5 × 1007 = 5,035 pencils.
  2. Tickets cost $1007 each. How much do 5 tickets cost?
    Answer5 × $1007 = $5,035.

    Answer9,063 ÷ 1007 = 9 rows.
  4. A plant grows 1007 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 11 weeks?
    Answer11 × 1007 = 11,077 millimetres.

Questions

What is 1007 × 12?

12,084.

What is half of 1007 × 8?

1007 × 8 = 8,056, and half of that is 4,028, which is 1007 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.

What is 1007 times 0?

0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1007 contain nothing.

What is 1007 × 7 and 1007 × 8?

1007 × 7 = 7,049 and 1007 × 8 = 8,056. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.

Is 15,105 in the 1007 times table?

Yes: 15,105 ÷ 1007 = 15 with no remainder. 15,106 is not, because dividing it by 1007 leaves a remainder of 1.

How do I learn the 1007 times table quickly?

Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
