Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 2: 5, 0.
- Every answer ends in 0 or 5.
- Split it into tens and ones: 1005 × k = 1000 × k + 5 × k.
- Each answer is 1005 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 1005.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 1005 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 1005 away: 10,050 − 1005 = 9,045. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 1005: 10,050 + 1005 = 11,055. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 1005 → 2,010 → 4,020.
Every multiple of 1005 is at least 1005, so there are none below 100 and 0 below 1,000. A number is in the 1005 times table exactly when it divides by 1005 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 1005 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 1005 × 1 = 1005 is odd, 1005 × 2 = 2,010 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 1005 × 10 = 10,050, and 1005 × 100 = 100,500. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 10,050 is 5,025.
Using the 1005 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 1005 × 7 = 7,035, you know 7,035 ÷ 1005 = 7 and 7,035 ÷ 7 = 1005. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 1005 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 1005 = 4,020 pencils. - Tickets cost $1005 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
Answer
4 × $1005 = $4,020. - 7,035 chairs are set out in rows of 1005. How many rows are there?
Answer
7,035 ÷ 1005 = 7 rows. - A plant grows 1005 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?
Answer
7 × 1005 = 7,035 millimetres.
Questions
What is 1005 × 12?
12,060.
What is half of 1005 × 8?
1005 × 8 = 8,040, and half of that is 4,020, which is 1005 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 1005 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 1005 contain nothing.
What is 1005 × 7 and 1005 × 8?
1005 × 7 = 7,035 and 1005 × 8 = 8,040. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 15,075 in the 1005 times table?
Yes: 15,075 ÷ 1005 = 15 with no remainder. 15,076 is not, because dividing it by 1005 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 1005 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
