Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 4, 8, 2, 6, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 14 is even.
- Split it: 14 × k = 10 × k + 4 × k. For example 14 × 7 = 70 + 28 = 98.
- Each answer is 14 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 14.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 14 times table is double the answer in the 7 times table: 7 × 6 = 42, so 14 × 6 = 84. To multiply 14 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 14 away: 140 − 14 = 126. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 14: 140 + 14 = 154. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 14 → 28 → 56.
There are 7 multiples of 14 below 100, and 71 below 1,000. A number is in the 14 times table exactly when it divides by 14 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 14 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 14 × 10 = 140, and 14 × 100 = 1,400. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 140 is 70.
Using the 14 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 14 × 7 = 98, you know 98 ÷ 14 = 7 and 98 ÷ 7 = 14. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 14 pencils. How many pencils are in 3 boxes?
Answer
3 × 14 = 42 pencils. - Tickets cost $14 each. How much do 9 tickets cost?
Answer
9 × $14 = $126. - 42 chairs are set out in rows of 14. How many rows are there?
Answer
42 ÷ 14 = 3 rows. - A plant grows 14 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 10 weeks?
Answer
10 × 14 = 140 millimetres.
Questions
What is 14 × 12?
168.
What is half of 14 × 8?
14 × 8 = 112, and half of that is 56, which is 14 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 14 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 14 contain nothing.
What is 14 × 7 and 14 × 8?
14 × 7 = 98 and 14 × 8 = 112. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 210 in the 14 times table?
Yes: 210 ÷ 14 = 15 with no remainder. 211 is not, because dividing it by 14 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 14 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
