Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 33 × k = 30 × k + 3 × k.
- Each answer is 33 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 33.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 33 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 33 away: 330 − 33 = 297. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 33: 330 + 33 = 363. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 33 → 66 → 132.
There are 3 multiples of 33 below 100, and 30 below 1,000. A number is in the 33 times table exactly when it divides by 33 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 33 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 33 × 1 = 33 is odd, 33 × 2 = 66 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 33 × 10 = 330, and 33 × 100 = 3,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 330 is 165.
Using the 33 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 33 × 7 = 231, you know 231 ÷ 33 = 7 and 231 ÷ 7 = 33. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 33 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 33 = 132 pencils. - Tickets cost $33 each. How much do 4 tickets cost?
Answer
4 × $33 = $132. - 99 chairs are set out in rows of 33. How many rows are there?
Answer
99 ÷ 33 = 3 rows. - A plant grows 33 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 7 weeks?
Answer
7 × 33 = 231 millimetres.
Questions
What is 33 × 12?
396.
What is half of 33 × 8?
33 × 8 = 264, and half of that is 132, which is 33 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 33 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 33 contain nothing.
What is 33 × 7 and 33 × 8?
33 × 7 = 231 and 33 × 8 = 264. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 495 in the 33 times table?
Yes: 495 ÷ 33 = 15 with no remainder. 496 is not, because dividing it by 33 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 33 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
