Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 10: 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0.
- Split it into tens and ones: 43 × k = 40 × k + 3 × k.
- Each answer is 43 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 43.
Building it from tables you already know
To multiply 43 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 43 away: 430 − 43 = 387. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 43: 430 + 43 = 473. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 43 → 86 → 172.
There are 2 multiples of 43 below 100, and 23 below 1,000. A number is in the 43 times table exactly when it divides by 43 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 43 is odd, the answers alternate between odd and even: 43 × 1 = 43 is odd, 43 × 2 = 86 is even, and so on. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 43 × 10 = 430, and 43 × 100 = 4,300. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 430 is 215.
Using the 43 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 43 × 7 = 301, you know 301 ÷ 43 = 7 and 301 ÷ 7 = 43. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 43 pencils. How many pencils are in 5 boxes?
Answer
5 × 43 = 215 pencils. - Tickets cost $43 each. How much do 10 tickets cost?
Answer
10 × $43 = $430. - 129 chairs are set out in rows of 43. How many rows are there?
Answer
129 ÷ 43 = 3 rows. - A plant grows 43 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 8 weeks?
Answer
8 × 43 = 344 millimetres.
Questions
What is 43 × 12?
516.
What is half of 43 × 8?
43 × 8 = 344, and half of that is 172, which is 43 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 43 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 43 contain nothing.
What is 43 × 7 and 43 × 8?
43 × 7 = 301 and 43 × 8 = 344. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 645 in the 43 times table?
Yes: 645 ÷ 43 = 15 with no remainder. 646 is not, because dividing it by 43 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 43 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
