Patterns that help you remember it
- The last digits repeat in a cycle of 5: 6, 2, 8, 4, 0.
- Every answer is even, because 26 is even.
- Split it into tens and ones: 26 × k = 20 × k + 6 × k.
- Each answer is 26 more than the one before, so you can count on in steps of 26.
Building it from tables you already know
Every answer in the 26 times table is double the answer in the 13 times table: 13 × 6 = 78, so 26 × 6 = 156. To multiply 26 by 9, multiply by 10 and take one 26 away: 260 − 26 = 234. To multiply by 11, multiply by 10 and add one more 26: 260 + 26 = 286. Multiplying by 4 is doubling twice: 26 → 52 → 104.
There are 3 multiples of 26 below 100, and 38 below 1,000. A number is in the 26 times table exactly when it divides by 26 with no remainder.
Odd, even and the last digit
Because 26 is even, every answer in its table is even, which is a quick way to catch a wrong answer. Multiplying by 10 always puts a zero on the end: 26 × 10 = 260, and 26 × 100 = 2,600. Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10: half of 260 is 130.
Using the 26 times table to divide
Every fact also works backwards: because 26 × 7 = 182, you know 182 ÷ 26 = 7 and 182 ÷ 7 = 26. Practising the table and its division facts together halves the work.

Word problems
Times tables are most useful when you can spot them in a question. Try these, then open each one to check:
- A box holds 26 pencils. How many pencils are in 4 boxes?
Answer
4 × 26 = 104 pencils. - Tickets cost $26 each. How much do 6 tickets cost?
Answer
6 × $26 = $156. - 208 chairs are set out in rows of 26. How many rows are there?
Answer
208 ÷ 26 = 8 rows. - A plant grows 26 millimetres a week. How much does it grow in 9 weeks?
Answer
9 × 26 = 234 millimetres.
Questions
What is 26 × 12?
312.
What is half of 26 × 8?
26 × 8 = 208, and half of that is 104, which is 26 × 4. Halving one factor halves the answer.
What is 26 times 0?
0. Any number multiplied by zero is zero, because zero groups of 26 contain nothing.
What is 26 × 7 and 26 × 8?
26 × 7 = 182 and 26 × 8 = 208. These two are the facts most people find hardest, so they are worth practising on their own.
Is 390 in the 26 times table?
Yes: 390 ÷ 26 = 15 with no remainder. 391 is not, because dividing it by 26 leaves a remainder of 1.
How do I learn the 26 times table quickly?
Learn it in order first, then use the patterns above and practise mixed questions; a few minutes a day works better than one long session.
